First Solo Art Show and Sale:
Baker College, Jackson Michigan, Jan. 12-Mar 5
“Beginnings”
Artist: Greta Picklesimer
This show is a gathering of some of my oil paintings, acrylics, oil pastels and photographs. It combines several
series including: “Views of Lake Michigan”, which are some of my first paintings, Wall Street (failings) and Back
Home in Kentucky photography series.
I started painting on an almost daily basis in 2006 after the loss of two jobs and a promising relationship.
Painting became a type of therapy for me. It was a way for me to work through feelings and gave my life
renewed focus. Art kept me from spiraling into depression over the many losses of that year. I’m not sure I
would have been so determined to begin painting had those losses not happened. I’ve always been interested
in art, but those failings were the catalysts I needed to get started.
Inspiration for my art comes from many places—dreams, my imagination and photographs. The painting “USS
Wall Street” was literally seen in a dream. Just before waking from a nap one afternoon, I dreamed this
painting. Not wanting the memory to fade, I quickly sketched the image in my journal and then created this
painting later that evening.
I am a member of the Jackson Civic Art Association as well as Ann Arbor Women Artists. In 2008—the first year
I’ve shown work-- I participated in the Jackson Civic Artists Association Wall of Art at Ella Sharp Museum and
in the Rural Inspirations show at Jackson Community College. This is my first solo show.
It’s my hope that these simple paintings will bring peace and comfort to viewers, but especially to the owners
of my work.
Please contact me for pricing information at greta242@comcast.net. I am negotiable on the price for some of
these paintings. Please contact me for details.

Storm on Lake Michigan oil on canvas 2007 this one did not make it into the show. I didn't like the black frame on it and so, didn't include it.
