I am a self-taught artist and a professional photographer. My
work includes: minimalist and abstract oil, acrylic, watercolor
and oil pastel paintings as well as photographs.
My desire to paint was born from the ashes of despair. I began
painting as a type of self therapy 2 years ago (in 2006) after
the loss of two jobs and a promising relationship. I needed a
new focus, so I turned to painting. My first paintings were
abstract representations of Lake Michigan -- a place with many
happy memories of family vacations, riding the waves and walks
along miles of sandy beaches.
Two years later, I continue to create almost every day. I find my
solace in art and bask in my accomplishments and discovery.
My artwork is currently tending toward the abstract. Some of my
most recent work is based on color, lines and the emotions it
invokes.
I have a degree in Photojournalism from Eastern Michigan
University. After graduation in 1989, I worked several years as
a freelance photographer for various newspapers including The
Ann Arbor News, The Ypsilanti Press, Home Town Newspapers
and even had an assignment for The Detroit News. I wrote
articles and later was hired as a staff writer for several
newspapers including: The Marshall Chronicle, The Ypsilanti
Courier and The Hillsdale Daily Newspaper.
I belong to the Jackson Civic Art Association as well as Ann
Arbor Women Artists -- two associations of which I am very
proud to be a member.
I am happily single and live in Michigan with my 3 rescued cats
-- Huff, Muff and Gracie.
